Dental Veneers in San Jose provided by at

Before and after dental veneers placed at Nancy Shiba, DDS in San Jose, CAMany people wish to have a perfect smile but they are unable to because of several factors.

Dental veneers are an increasingly popular cosmetic dental treatment for teeth that are stained or discolored, chipped or cracked, or unevenly spaced in your mouth. Veneers are thin layers of porcelain or resin composite that are custom-made to cover the front surface of your teeth.

Our team at Nancy Shiba, DDS can tell you more about the benefits of getting veneers and help determine if they are right for you.

What Are Veneers?

Veneers are a thin cover for your teeth that are made to match the shape and shade of your original teeth.

Porcelain and composite veneers are permanent, while snap-on veneers are temporary. Veneers not only help whiten your smile, but they also help even out teeth that are misplaced or overcrowded in your mouth.

Why Do People Get Veneers?

Veneers are excellent for patients who have crooked teeth, or those having discolored or stained teeth.

Veneers therefore can mask these issues and, in the process, improve your overall appearance by brightening your smile.

Our dental office can accomplish a number of things with dental veneers because of their versatility. By placing veneers over the front surfaces, we can close gaps, cover dark stains, even out the length of teeth, and create a uniform looking smile. As such, veneers are able to restore your smile.

Some people have seemingly small or worn-out teeth and might benefit from veneers as they can close up gaps.

Veneers can aesthetically fill misaligned teeth that seem crooked. Veneers help close gaps caused by gum recession, lengthen teeth shortened by wear and provide uniformity and symmetry to the dental framework.

Dental veneers are also used to strengthen weakened teeth caused by wear and damage. They are used to cover up stains on teeth that won't whiten.

Veneers are ideal and efficient as minimal tooth extraction is needed in their placement.

Types of Veneers Available When You Come To Our Practice

Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are one of the veneers that you can get at our clinic. They are durable and do not discolor or stain easily.
Since they are made from porcelain, you will discover that they mimic the appearance of your natural teeth. This makes them one of the most sought options.

Composite Veneers

The other type of veneer that you can get at our clinic is composite veneers. These involve minimal removal of your enamel.
The veneer is hardened to your tooth, which ensures that you can offer maximum protection to your natural teeth. Our dentists pay close attention to ensure that you get veneers that closely resemble your tooth. Polishing is critical to have an end result that brightens your overall smile.

Snap-On Veneers

If you are unsure about getting permanent veneers, you might consider snap-on veneers. Snap-on veneers are temporary and a good choice if you are concerned with the risks of getting permanent veneers. These risks include the fact that the procedure cannot be undone, and the color cannot be changed after they are placed.

What Happens Before You Get Veneers?

A dental examination is usually the first step when you come in for veneer placement. Our cosmetic dentists will examine your oral state.

They do this to ensure that you have healthy teeth and gums that can withstand the treatment. Treatments are not applied if there are any notable signs of unhealthy teeth or gums.

How Are Veneers Done?

You might need tooth reduction through grinding down depending on the type of veneer that best suits your needs. Porcelain veneers are the most conventional type and require the dentist to grind down the teeth before making an impression of the teeth.

Some of the teeth may need to be removed, including the enamel. This grinding is an irreversible procedure and could cause pain or sensitivity to the tooth.

After the dental impression is taken to the lab to be made, a temporary veneer may be used to cap the area to minimize discomfort.

Composite resin veneers require the tooth surface to be etched first before applying thin layers of the resin material to the teeth. Several layers may be added to achieve the intended cosmetic look on the teeth.

Each layer applied must be cured or hardened by a beam of laser light before another layer is applied. No prep veneers require minimal removal of just the tooth enamel, less invasively.

They also do not necessitate the patient to be sedated.

After Veneer Placement

Veneers are an option for people with already healthy gums and dentition and are not advisable for people that suffer from bruxism.

You need to have these treated separately first as veneers chip and break easily. You might also need new veneers as they might loosen over time.

If you suffer from bruxism, a night guard may be necessary to prevent you from grinding your teeth. Veneers may crack or break when put under a lot of strain.

You will need to stop unhealthy oral practices such as nail-biting, and chewing on hard items.

Can You Eat with Veneers?

You will also have to reduce the eating of hardened foods since they can significantly weaken your veneers.

How Do I Care for My Veneers?

You will still need to continue with proper dental hygiene routines such as brushing and flossing your teeth regularly.

How Long Do Veneers Last?

When you fail to follow good oral hygiene standards, you can significantly hamper the chances of your veneers serving you for a considerable period.
