Getting regularly scheduled dental cleanings is key to preventing cavities, fighting against gum disease, removing built-up plaque and tartar that can cause painful problems down the line, and keeping your teeth looking white. That’s why at Nancy Shiba, DDS we recommend all of our patients come in for a professional dental cleaning twice a year. By coming in twice a year, your teeth stay protected and our team can stay on top of your overall dental health.
Dental cleanings are a safe and easy procedure that leaves your mouth feeling fresh and clean. We understand that some people get scared or nervous when they sit in the dental chair, especially if they haven’t seen a dentist in a long time, but we take care to make sure all of our patients feel comfortable when they come in for a dental cleaning.
What Is a Dental Cleaning?
Before we get started with the cleaning, we closely examine your teeth and gums to make sure there are no serious issues that would cause any pain during the cleaning. If we spot something, we’ll be sure to discuss any next steps with you before we move forward.
Then, we remove any built-up plaque and tartar that has accumulated on your teeth and gums. Once all of that has been removed, we brush your teeth and gums with our specialized toothpaste and power brush. Not only does this combination give you a professional clean, but your teeth will look polished and feel smooth.
Next, just like at home (hopefully!) following the brushing is a flossing session. Again, our specialized tools and training allow us to get to all of the hard to reach spots in your mouth to make sure everything is clean. When all of that is done, we may perform a fluoride treatment to make sure your teeth are protected until the next time you see us. After all of that work is finished, we’ll take one last look at your teeth and gums to make sure everything looks good.
Why Should I Schedule A Dental Cleaning?
According to the Centers for Disease Control, the percentage of adults between the ages of 20 and 44 with untreated tooth decay issues is 31.6%. Even if your mouth feels fine and you are in no pain, there may be potentially serious dental problems developing beneath the surface that could turn into a major issue next year or even next month.
The only way to stop this from happening is to have a professional examine your teeth and perform a deep cleaning. Some forms of dental stains or tartar, once developed, cannot be removed with the teeth cleaning solutions you have available to you at home.
So whether you brush and floss regularly, or if you need some help getting back on a regular dental cleaning program, schedule an appointment with Nancy Shiba, DDS today. Call us now at (669) 306-7669.
