Dental Implants

The loss of a tooth is a reality for most people at some point. Most often, this is due to decay, though teeth can also be lost from injury, breakage, or periodontal disease. We can replace a missing tooth with a dental implant. Implants are designed to serve as a foundation for a dental crown which can then serve as a replacement tooth. Patients love this restoration because it provides the look, feel and function of your natural teeth. The team at Nancy Shiba, DDS, guided by Dr. Shiba, will evaluate your mouth, including your jawbone density, and together create a treatment plan that is right for you.

Increasingly, dental implants are changing the way our patients live! With them, our patients are being able to eat, talk, and present themselves with confidence. Your teeth are a more active part of your life than you realize until they are gone, we can help you enjoy life by restoring the function of your mouth.

What are dental implants?

Dental implants are titanium posts that Dr. Shiba places directly into your jawbone. This post will serve as a base, or root system, for the tooth that is missing. With time, your bone and tissue will bond to and around the post, making a strong and permanent fit. Once healed and bonded, we can then place a dental crown over the post. The end result is a perfect-looking tooth in a spot where your natural tooth is missing.

Why should I get a dental implant?

The simple answer to why a patient should consider having an implant placed is to restore their dental health. Implants provide numerous benefits including:
•  Implants with a crown placed on top allow the patient to chew the foods that they once loved. Missing teeth often mean adjusting what you can chew and how you chew. We can restore your ability to chew, and chew correctly.
•  Implants help keep your neighboring teeth from shifting out of place, altering your bite. This may sound like no big deal, but allowing your bite to adjust can create other problems, including TMJ issues.
•  Implants can improve the aesthetics of your smile. Missing teeth can severely damper the beauty of your smile, leading to self-esteem issues and hiding your smile.
•  Implants help keep your jawbone strong and healthy. When teeth are lost, your jawbone immediately reacts to the loss. Just as muscles atrophy if they are not worked, your jaw resorbs if it is not in use. This loss of bone gives patients that physical look that we associate with being older. Before we can place your implant, we have to rebuild that bone, and then with the implant in place, the bone will stay strong, filling out your face, and adding to your beauty.

Patients love knowing that their dental implants with crowns appear natural and that their facial contours will be preserved.

Examination for Dental Implants

Your implant treatment begins with an evaluation through examination. We will review your medical history, your dental history, and take a look at your bone and surrounding area using digital radiographs. During your consultation, we will discuss your specific needs.
