What Are the Five Common Dental Procedures?

General dentists offer five dental procedures. Most people with dental-related problems can easily be treated using one of these treatments. Whether it's a toothache or a complex dental complication, some of the common treatments include:

Fillings

Dentists use dental fillings to treat patients suffering from decayed teeth or cavities. Aside from treating decayed teeth, fillings are also used in repairing teeth that have fractured. When a patient visits the dentist complaining of a toothache, the dentist's first thing is to check for visible cracks and cavities. This is done through x-rays, which provide a better view of the patient's mouth.

Dental Crowns

Dental crowns are effective in the treatment of teeth that are damaged by injury or decay. These restorative dental appliances are the only forms of treatment that can save a damaged tooth from being extracted. Since dental crowns are made in the laboratory, it takes at least two dentist appointments to complete the procedure.

Tooth Extraction

General dentists can pull out teeth that are beyond being salvaged. The dentist also removes teeth that push past the gums and fail. A dentist will extract any tooth that is not breaking past the gums and causes pain. After loosening it, the dentist will perform minor oral surgery before extracting it.

Dental Implants

This is the most permanent and best way to replace real teeth, whereby minor oral surgery places the implant firmly into the patient's jawbone. The entire placement process takes at least several procedures over a certain time for the implants to heal properly.

Braces

Patients with misaligned teeth can have braces to position them more aesthetically pleasing and easily accessible during cleaning. Aside from their cosmetic benefits, dental braces also correct bite complications and help make patients bite and talk with ease.
