When Would a Panoramic X-ray Be the Best Tool to Use?

The dental industry relies on X-rays to view your internal oral structure to diagnose dental conditions, one of the commonly used x-rays being the panoramic X-ray. This type of X-ray captures the full details of your mouth, including the teeth on both your upper and lower jaws, temporomandibular joints, and your nasal area in a single image. This feature makes it a better tool in the diagnosis of dental problems.

Panoramic X-ray for Diagnosis

A panoramic X-ray is best used as a diagnostic tool for broader coverage than intraoral cameras and traditional X-rays. This X-ray will project a beam on your mouth and rotate in a semicircle from one side of your jaw to the other to capture your whole mouth structure. If you have a problem with your teeth, a panoramic X-ray will capture it in detail. Also, if you have a problem affecting your oral tissues, we will tell through this X-ray. Such information includes your maxillary sinuses status, bone abnormalities, and tooth positioning. A panoramic X-ray is also useful in revealing medical problems, including sinusitis, oral cancer, and tumors, TMJ disorders, and cysts.

Panoramic X-ray Before Dental Procedures

Crooked or missing teeth necessitate a restorative treatment to restore your smile and confidence. The treatment options include dentures, dental implants, braces, and tooth extraction. Given that these procedures will alter your oral bone structure, we will take a panoramic X-ray of your mouth beforehand for planning purposes and ensure the treatment's overall success. The procedure does not require special preparation and will take only 20 seconds. It also has less radiation than the traditional intraoral X-ray.
