The Effects of Orange Lipstick on Your Teeth

You're not alone! Many people find that orange shades can make their teeth appear less white. But why is that, and what can you do about it?

Why Orange Lipstick Makes Teeth Look Dull

The reason orange lipstick can make teeth look dull has to do with the way colors interact. Orange is a complementary color to blue, which means that it sits opposite blue on the color wheel. When you place orange next to something blue, like your teeth, the orange will make the blue appear brighter and more intense. This can make your teeth look duller and less white.

In addition, orange lipstick can stain your teeth. The pigments in the lipstick can build up over time, especially if you don't practice good oral hygiene. This can lead to a yellow or orange tinge on your teeth, making them look even less white.

What You Can Do

If you love wearing orange lipstick, there are a few things you can do to minimize its impact on your teeth:

•  Choose a sheer or matte orange lipstick. Sheer lipsticks will have less pigment than opaque lipsticks, so they won't make your teeth look as dull. Matte lipsticks are also less likely to stain your teeth.
•  Apply a lip liner. Applying a lip liner in a neutral color before putting on your orange lipstick can help prevent the color from bleeding onto your teeth.
•  Brush your teeth after wearing orange lipstick. This will help remove any lipstick that may have stained your teeth.
•  See your dentist for regular cleanings. This is the best way to remove any stains that may have built up on your teeth.

Prevention Dentistry is Key

While orange lipstick can affect the appearance of your teeth, it's important to remember that good oral care is the key to keeping your teeth healthy and white. Brushing twice a day, flossing daily, and visiting your dentist regularly will help prevent stains and keep your teeth looking their best.

So, don't let the fear of dull teeth stop you from rocking your favorite orange lipstick! Just be sure to follow these tips to keep your smile bright and healthy.
