Does Bad Breath Mean Something More

Does Bad Breath Mean Something MoreBad breath can be a result of poor dental hygiene, or it may even be an indicator of other medical complications. A case of bad breath can also be amplified based on the foods you eat and other lifestyles that are not ideal for your oral health.

Health problems linked with bad breath

When a case of bad breath does not go away, or there is a persistent bad taste that lingers in your mouth, this may indicate the development of periodontal disease. This gum disease is brought about by the accumulation of plaque on your teeth. The bacteria that is present will cause toxic substances to form, and this can irritate your gums. If the condition is left untreated, it can adversely affect the jawbone along with your gums.

Other situations that cause bad breath could be ill-fitting dental appliances, and in some cases, the presence of a yeast infection in the mouth. Another medical condition called dry mouth can also lead to bad breath. Saliva plays a pivotal role in moistening the mouth, and it neutralizes the acids that are secreted by plaque. Similarly, it rinses away the dead cells that linger on your tongue, cheeks, and your gums. If these deceased cells are not rinsed away, they begin to break down and cause bad breath in the process.

Dry mouth can also be a side effect of ingesting some forms of medication, complications in your salivary glands, or persistent breathing via the mouth. The morning breath of individuals who sleep with open mouths is in fact worse than that of people who sleep with their mouths fully closed.

In order to reduce or completely eliminate bad breath, you will need to improve your oral hygiene by brushing at least twice a day and flossing on a regular basis. Another effective remedy is to see a dentist regularly. Our team is committed to offering quality dental care, reach out to us today.
